I am trying to date when this photopgraph was taken and would appreciate any suggestions with those with better knowledge than me on dating photographs.
The actual photograph is 2.75 x 5.5 inches (72 x 141mm) and it is mounted on a thick piece of off white/light brown card measuring 5.5 x 9.5 inches (140 x 238mm) and 1.55mm thick. In the bottom right hand corner is printed in black "Stanley Mann, 27 York Place, Brighton".
I have done some research and find Stanley Mann had a studio at 27 York Place, Brighton between 1900 and 1924 where he "produced studio portraits in the traditional carte-de-visite and cabinet formats, but by 1910 these standard size mounts had become unfashionable. From around 1910, Stanley Mann issued his studio portraits in the increasingly popular postcard format".
This would tend to suggest the photograph was taken before 1910 but family stories suggest it is my father, Stanley Thomas PAGE, who wasn't born until 26 July 1912. If the boy was aged about six or seven when the photograph was taken then, if it is my father, would date it about 1918-1919?
Thanks for any help.
